Mieville Halloween Village 2014!

When Wyvern Dryke, the awesome fox behind Lantian Flox, mentioned Trick-or-Treat doors at a fishing contest last night, I had to know what he was referring to. It turns out, you can go Trick-or-Treating at the Mieville Halloween Village this year! The village will be up from October 4th through November 2nd, which is great, because you will want to take your time.

When you land, be sure to grab the free Trick-or-Treat HUD. Wear it and, as you wander through the six themed areas of the sim, click on the doors you see. If the light’s on, you will get a treat from one of the many creators participating in the event. If the light’s off… Well, just try it. I dare you.

Not every participating merchant was set up when I explored there, but that may have changed by the time you get there. There was still plenty to do. Aside from the Trick-or-Treating, you can carve custom Jack-o’-lanterns courtesy of Chimeric Arts (You can’t miss the pumpkin patch near the entrance.), shop for Halloween decorations and costumes (for avatars of all sizes), play Gacha machines, bum around a spooky amusement park, read some spectacular gravestones, and more! You’ll also find quite a few freebies beyond those you’ll get from the doors; some merchants have them out, and Cog & Grog has a fine selection of their steampunk gifts on display.

Also, it’s a beautiful sim. Just saying.

Orient Express Hunt – Cambodia Path

The Orient Express Hunt, organized by Best HOME Deal, runs through October 31st, 2014, and is comprised of six separate hunt paths: Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, and Thailand. Each hunt gift costs 2L, so it’s not quite free. But it’s close!

I intend to finish all of the paths, but I started with Cambodia because — full disclosure here — I helped with the research for the Kittycat’s Creations gift.

Cambodia prizes include male and female outfits from Tiffany Designs; a painting desk from Cake Fox; a texture-changing rug from The Rug Shop; a texture pack from Les Sucreries de Fairy; a Buddhism oasis from Akeana’s Architecture & Accessory; beach chairs and an umbrella from Stitches Creations; and a Cambodian treats tray from Kittycat’s Creations.

The Cambodian treats tray includes fried tarantulas that are also throwable. Great for Halloween!

Informational notecards with locations and hints can be found at the hunt signs at each location. There is no order, so it’s easy to pick and choose. Have fun!

Corn Maze Hunt at Botanica

For the fourth year in a row, Botanica is holding a Corn Maze Hunt!

The hunt runs from October 1st through November 2nd, 2014, and features a bunch of entertaining haunted house tricks and animations for your avatar to stumble into.  Be sure to set aside a couple hours for backtracking and general enjoyment, and set your windlight to something dark. (I went with Places Wiccan, which is nice and gloomy but doesn’t make things too dark to see.)

Follow the instructions, explore the maze, and collect 19 vintage luminarias. There will be clues along the way. Collect all the luminarias, and you can choose one grand prize from a vendor in the haunted house.

You get to choose from a wearable flying broom, a Day of the Dead costume (male or female), or a decorative roaming ghost. I went with the flying broom, because one can never have too many of those.

The hunt is free, and it’s a great way to get in the mood for the month of October!

Hunt Gift: BelStar Boutique

BelStar Boutique is a cozy shop full of interior and exterior decor with lots of pastels, florals, and country flair. Well, magazine country, anyway. Think Country Living, not “chaotic old farmhouse.” (That’s not a criticism, by the way. I’m not sure it would be possible to pull off “chaotic old farmhouse” in SL without it being creepy and full of chairs suspended in space. What’s with those, anyway?)

Anyway, Belladonna Starbrook offers two hunt gifts this month. The Home & Garden Hunt starts tomorrow, June 2nd, and is a dollarbie hunt. The other is the Let the Sparks Fly hunt, which runs until June 20th. The latter gift is what I’m showing you here:

That is the Country Tailgate set. It includes everything shown (except for Border Collie me). The set comes as a grouped object, so rez it in build mode. Don’t worry, though. If you screw up, it’s copy/mod. The chairs have male and female sits, respectively, and the grill fire toggles on and off with a touch. You can cook your meat (or tofu or whatever) as much or as little as you want! Nom.

The whole set is 78 prims, but because it is a grouped object, you can reduce the impact as you like. Or increase it by adding chairs or trees or even another grill! (I love copy/mod perms.) It’s adorable, seasonal and, yes, free.
