Depraved Nation is putting on the fifth Dirty Turkey Hunt this month, and it runs through November 30th! It’s long, at 130-odd stops, and I’m not sure I’ll finish it. (Got burned out on Halloween hunts in October and still haven’t caught my second wind.) But there are some cool gifts to be found and, yes, they’re free.
Expect to find some skimpy clothes — it’s the Dirty Turkey Hunt, after all — but I like to cover up a little more, especially in the fall. Finding some more seasonal clothing was a pleasant surprise!
The prizes pictured above include:
- Vacancy Hooded Jacket from Razor (store #1)
* This gift includes both male and female versions.
- Kawaii Reverb Monkey Chapka Hat from *Epic* (store #8)
- DT Mesh Pants from American Bazaar (store #17)
* This gift also includes a mesh top.
Hints are on the Depraved Nation website. Happy hunting!
When Wyvern Dryke, the awesome fox behind Lantian Flox, mentioned Trick-or-Treat doors at a fishing contest last night, I had to know what he was referring to. It turns out, you can go Trick-or-Treating at the Mieville Halloween Village this year! The village will be up from October 4th through November 2nd, which is great, because you will want to take your time.
When you land, be sure to grab the free Trick-or-Treat HUD. Wear it and, as you wander through the six themed areas of the sim, click on the doors you see. If the light’s on, you will get a treat from one of the many creators participating in the event. If the light’s off… Well, just try it. I dare you.
Not every participating merchant was set up when I explored there, but that may have changed by the time you get there. There was still plenty to do. Aside from the Trick-or-Treating, you can carve custom Jack-o’-lanterns courtesy of Chimeric Arts (You can’t miss the pumpkin patch near the entrance.), shop for Halloween decorations and costumes (for avatars of all sizes), play Gacha machines, bum around a spooky amusement park, read some spectacular gravestones, and more! You’ll also find quite a few freebies beyond those you’ll get from the doors; some merchants have them out, and Cog & Grog has a fine selection of their steampunk gifts on display.
Also, it’s a beautiful sim. Just saying.
I probably didn’t find all of the available treats at the Village, but here’s a small selection of goodies you can find or win:
- Background textures by Kismet Textures [Freebie]
- Halloween Tree by Coveted [Freebie]
- 8-Bit Pumpkin by Nerxual Oh [Trick-or-Treat Prize]
- Jack-o-Lanterns by Chimeric Arts [Customizable Freebies]
- Halloween Deck by Potpourri Designs [Trick-or-Treat Prize]
- Halloween Centerpiece by Park Place [Trick-or-Treat Prize]
- Skull Candlestucks by Tiny Huggles [Freebie]
- Pumpkin Bear by Hermione’s Heavenly Sweet Boutique [Trick-or-Treat Prize]
- Unisex Pumpkin T-shirt by Hermione’s Heavenly Sweet Boutique [Trick-or-Treat Prize]
- Dandara’s Bloody Skull Witch Hat by The Pumpkin Head [Trick-or-Treat Prize]
- Spider Necklace, “Red” by Lantian Flox/Wyvern Dryke [Trick-or-Treat Prize]
- Lady’s Flying Mushrooms – Pumpkins and Treats – Les Sucreries de Fairy [Trick-or-Treat Prize]
There’s more to be found, including accessories, apparel, textures, seasonal decor, and (of course) sweets from all manner of merchants. So go knock on some doors, carve some pumpkins, shop around and have fun!
For the fourth year in a row, Botanica is holding a Corn Maze Hunt!
The hunt runs from October 1st through November 2nd, 2014, and features a bunch of entertaining haunted house tricks and animations for your avatar to stumble into. Be sure to set aside a couple hours for backtracking and general enjoyment, and set your windlight to something dark. (I went with Places Wiccan, which is nice and gloomy but doesn’t make things too dark to see.)
Follow the instructions, explore the maze, and collect 19 vintage luminarias. There will be clues along the way. Collect all the luminarias, and you can choose one grand prize from a vendor in the haunted house.
You get to choose from a wearable flying broom, a Day of the Dead costume (male or female), or a decorative roaming ghost. I went with the flying broom, because one can never have too many of those.
The hunt is free, and it’s a great way to get in the mood for the month of October!

Until June 29th, Aniri’s Boutique is holding a storewide hunt as a 5th Anniversary celebration! Creator Amaranth Hak has set out 31 (!) little gift boxes for you to find. Seventeen of them are free, seven are dollarbies, three of them cost 5L, and four are priced at 10L. You can pick and choose. Amaranth has a guide to all of the gifts on the hunt, which is great. I love it when creators do this! (Hint: The guide isn’t numbered, but it is in alphabetical order. So are the gift boxes.)
Find and purchase all of the gift boxes, however, and you can send a notecard with your name, or the empty boxes in a folder with your name, to her and she’ll send back a gift card.
What I like most about this little shop is the selection of sculpty shoes. I am not good at shoes in the first place, and don’t bother with mesh feet. But when I want to be a fae or something with human feet, it gets to be a challenge to find the right footwear for a given outfit. So… it’s nice to have decent, non-mesh, non-Slink shoes available.
And Aniri’s even has flats!
Anyway, there are a lot of clothes and shoes to try on from this hunt. This particular outfit is made up of the Becca top and pants set (free); the necklace and earrings from the Kathrin jewelry set (free); and the Sonja pumps (dollarbie.) You can see more on the Aniri blog!
Aside from the Anniversary hunt, Aniri’s is on The Beached Bunny Hunt 4 (through June 15th), has a corner with freebies and cheapies (including Lucky Boards and an MM) and a just a bunch of reasonably-priced gowns, casuals, shoes, and even some menswear!
You’ll find a group joiner not far from:
Wrapped Corpse Set Group Gift by [ContraptioN]
+ other freebies in the last room. Do also check his interesting masks.
Baby Monkey Shoes has several pink gift bags on the checkout counter, currently free for anyone. (The Lucky Chairs in the back, and possibly the MM boards — those were locked down, so I didn’t check — are only for group members. The group costs 250L$ to join.) Among several gadgets and goodies is a bag of 2013’s Advent Gifts. These include mesh shoes, tops, pants, a dress (with a color change hud) and jewelry. (I’m wearing the Inez Flats, Corazon dress and Dalila necklace in the picture below.)
And don’t overlook the bag of Funny Talking Body Parts. There’s an Evil Tummy Talker (“I think it’s so sad that daddy is not real”); a Bursting Bladder (“That should NOT be red?”); a Talking Halo (“Angel? You? As if!”); a Hurty Feet Talker (“Ha ha, you paid HOW MUCH for those shoes?”); and… an Evil Scrotum (“I thought we agreed – no more ladyboys”).
Anyway, you can’t miss the gift bags as you enter the store. Have fun!
Sekela Avro is one of Virtual Vagabond’s own, and she has beautiful, affordable wings at her shop. Plus, she’s always coming out with new ones!
Her Midnight Mania* board gifts are frequently rotated, so keep an eye on it. Today it’s the Zaari wings. Like all of the AVRO wings, they’re made in the flexi prim style, flap on command, and are tintable, resizable and more via an included HUD.
You can find the MM board here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Southhaven/89/156/44
This particular pair of wings includes one texture, but tinting alone offers many possibilities. Play with the included HUD to experiment with tint, opacity, size, glow and sparkles. Just don’t forget to make a backup copy of those wings before you do!
Above photo taken at Greenhouse: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Greenhouse/135/70/26
Keep an eye out for hunt objects, the lucky barrel, and even newbie gifts for those under 30 days old! The wings for sale really are affordable, and it goes without saying that you should support SL artists with lindens if you can (at least I think so), but even if you can’t, just wearing the wings around helps. And anyway, this is a freebie blog, so there you go!
*MM Boards and other freebies are subject to change, move or disappear without notice.
